Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to classify error types appeared in a process of solving problems about linear equation of second grade middle school students. The subjects for this thesis were 111 persons selected from 'K' middle school located in Busan.
The results are as follows.
First, the rate of correct answers for problems of the linear equation with integer coefficients was similar to students with positive attitude and students with negative attitudes.
Second, for the problems of the linear equation with variables on both sides, the problems of the linear equation with negative coefficients and the problems with fractions, students with positive attitudes showed higher rate of correct answers than were higher than students with negative attitudes. And error types showed a slightly different response from students with positive attitudes than students with negative attitudes.
Also, solving problems using the properties of the equation were similar to above results.
