Abstract

This study has investigated the effect of various fillers on the mechanical property of loess composites. The loess composites were manufactured by using reinforcement fiber and powder. The mechanical property of the loess composites was evaluated by 3-point bending test. Moreover, the fracture surface of loess composites was observed by optical microscope and SEM.
The bending strength of the pure loess increased with drying time and maximum value showed when the pure loess was dried for 7 hours. But the bending strength of the cotton and carbon fiber reinforced loess composites did not improve. In case of using a PEG powder, the bending strength of the loess composites revealed lower than the one of the pure loess and had bad formability.
However the bending strength of the loess composites used PE powder increased with the amount of PE powder and the composites used 40 wt.% PE powder improved up to twice value than the one of the pure loess. In conclusion, it was found that the mechanical property of the loess composites with 40wt.% PE powder was enough value to apply in real industrial part.
