Spatio-temporal distribution of Portunid (Crustacea: Decapoda) larvae in Korean waters
Abstract
The spatio-temporal distribution of portunid larvae were investigated in Korean waters from February to November in 2016. Sea surface temperature (SST) was highest in September and lowest in February. Sea surface salinity (SSS) was highest in March and lowest in September. Mean density of total portunid larvae were highest in October and lowest in February. Total 5 species were identified. Ovalipes punctatus larvae were occurred in February and March. Portunus trituberculatus larvae were occurred in June and September. Charybdis bimaculata larvae were occurred from September to November. Liocarcinus corrugatus larvae were only occurred in November. Unidentified portunid larvae were occurred in September and November. Megalopal stages showed wider distribution range than the other stages, and distributed high density in onshore stations with early stages. Larval occurrence of each portunid species showed seasonality and the range of distribution by larval development stages of each portunid larvae were different.
