Abstract
This paper tends to search for Japanese Korean student influence on Korean words intonation with regional dialect accent of Japan. I analysed intonations of Korean native, Japanese Tokyo accent and Japanese Kansai accent speakers on assumption that there may be some impact of regional dialect accent when they speak Korean.
For the beginning, I checked accent concept of Korean and Japanese, and accent feature of dialect Japanese. Korean accentual phrase depends on first phoneme which decides pitch and pitch does not distinguish the meaning. However, intonation is important for native pronunciation. I researched Korean intonation patterns corresponding with this fact and pitch accent of Japanese.
I experimented with Korean native, Japanese Tokyo accent and Japanese Kansai accent speakers in 40 words of Sino-Korean, native and loanword those dialect accent are different in translation. I used "praat, kPhonetica, toneLabeler" which are a voice analysis program, and analyzed the patterns of pitch making criteria in high-pitch after extracting the pitch-curves.
The result of research is as follows. First, on inquiry as corresponding with intonation pattern of Korean speaker, by and large, Tokyo-accent speaker had more accuracy than Kansai. However, statistically, there was not meaningful difference. In other words, accuracy of Tokyo and Kansai-accent speaker had little difference in speaking Korean words. Second, on inquiry as transferring Japanese dialect accent to Korean, Kansai-dialect speaker had more transfer accent than Tokyo. This means that Kansai-dialect speaker tends not to use Kansai-accent as a certain situation, and learning foreign language is one of them. Third, on inquiry as transferring features of Japanese dialect-accent to pronunciation of Korean words, Tokyo-dialect speakers in 2 syllables word, which is HL type, had more dialect-accent transfer. Kansai-dialect speakers in 3 syllables word, which is LHL type, had more dialect-accent transfer than others, irrespective of word sort. As a result of this research in, Tokyo-dialect speakers and Kansai had different learning aspect in Korean pronunciation. This means that they are different in learning foreign language even though they use same language. Furthermore, while dialect transfers, the more syllables, the new-accent type has been making as a middle language.
I hope this research will be used helpfully to teach Korean to Japanese Korean learners.
