수술실 간호사의 갈등관리 유형, 의사소통 능력 및 소진 간의 관계
- Abstract
- This study aimed to investigate operating room nurses’ conflict management styles, communication competence and burnout.
The participants were 250 operating room nurses who worked at four university hospitals and seven general hospitals with more than 200 beds, located in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The study was conducted from July 1 to September 30, 2020. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure conflict management style, communication competence, and burnout.
The collected data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test and Partial correlation coefficient via SPSS/WIN 23.0 program.
1. The data analysis found statistically significant differences in burnout level in relation to general characteristics, according to age (F=4.08, p=.018) and, perceived health status (F=20.24, p=.001). The data analysis also demonstrated statistically significant differences in burnout degrees in relation to work-related characteristics, according to experience in the operating room (F=4.13, p=.007), shift (t=-3.17, p=.002) and satisfaction with the operating room (F=39.41, p=.001).
2. The average score for communication competence and burnout was 3.58 and 3.06, respectively, on a scale of 5.
3. The conflict management style of the participants shows high frequency in order of integrating, obliging, avoiding, mixed, compromising, and dominating in groups.
4. Communication competence was found to have a significant positive correlation with the integrating (r=.50, p=.001), compromising (r=.40, p=.001), and dominating (r=.24, p=.001) conflict management styles. Furthermore, burnout was found to have a significant positive correlation with the conflict management style of avoiding (r=.14, p=.032). Burnout was found to have a significant negative correlation with communication competence (r=-.19, p=.003) and the conflict management style of integrating (r=-.14, p=.029).
The results of this study can be used as basic data for reducing and preventing the burnout of operating nurses. Therefore, we suggest educational programs that would reflect the conflict management styles and improve communication competence.
