Investigation on Effects of Fire Curtain and Natural Ventilation on Smoke Behavior in Fire of Theater
Abstract
In the present study, the effects of fire curtain and natural ventilation on the smoke behavior in fire of theater were investigated. Based on the law of similarity, the experimental set-up of reduced scale model was constructed. Through a series of experiments, the influences of the fire curtain and natural ventilation on the temperature distribution, mass flow rate of outflow through the natural ventilation, and smoke spread timing to the auditorium were measured and discussed. To check the accuracy of numerical method, the numerical simulation using FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) was performed for the reduced scale model, which was compared with the experimental data. Finally, for the real scale theater, the numerical simulation was carried out to examine the temperature distribution, mass flow rate of outflow through the natural ventilation, and smoke spread timing to the auditorium under various conditions of fire curtain, natural ventilation, and fire source positions. Based on this work, it was found that the fire curtain and natural ventilation conditions play an important role of affecting the smoke behavior in the fire of theater.
