Abstract

This study examines the perception of child-care teachers regarding the class-note and its usage in a way of communication with children’s parents. This research intends to enhance the overall understanding of the practical demands on child-care teachers, surveying the difficulties and demands in the use of class-note and provides the fundamental information to optimize the effectiveness of class-note to make better communications between child-care teachers and the parents.

The below are the research subjects;

First, how the class-note is used by the child-care teachers to communicate with the parents?
Second, what are the difficulties of using class-note for child-care teachers and how the use of class-note is perceived by the teachers?
Third, what are the demands of the child-care teachers to make better communication with the parents in the use of class-note?

A large-scale survey was conducted for 247 child-care teachers in child-care centers across Busan area. The result of survey was analyzed using SPSS V25 program; the frequency and percentage was calculated to find out the general background of the child-care teachers and their current status in the usage of class-note. Also the average and the standard deviation were applied to figure out the perception of child-care teachers in the use of class-note.

First, the result of this analysis shows; the methods of class-note used by child-care teachers are hand-written class note and ‘SMART-class-note’ and five times or more per week is the highest frequency to send out the class-note. The most common format is mixture of text and picture. The class-note was made mainly during children’s nap time.

Second, the perception of child-care teachers about the usage of the class-note as a main tool to communicate with the parents shows that the overall satisfaction level is ‘satisfied’. The difficulty level child-care teachers recognize in the usage of class-note is above average 3 in 9 questionnaires which shows that this task is generally challenging. The recognizable difficulties the child-care teachers point out are the limited time to work on the class-note, taking photos for the class-note during child-care hours and the frequencies of sending out the class-note.

Third, regarding the reasonable frequencies of the class-note that the child-care teachers demand shows once or twice per week is the highest marked. The biggest benefit of the current class-note is delivering the announcement child-care center want to share with the parents. And the limited time to work on class-note and the consequence of taking extra time for making class-note is the shortcomings child-care teachers recognize. Also the most demanded improvement the child-care teachers point out shows the less frequency of sending-out to maximize the effectiveness of class-note.

Based on the result of this study, to make the effective use of class-note, a training session for how to write the class-note and the professional educations for the contents of the class-note need to be employed for the child-care teachers consistently. And the further studies on the subject of how to finish the class-note during the child-care teachers’ working hour and the ways to reduce the difficulties in working on class-note are needed.
