A Study on Method of Calculating Risk
Abstract
In order to prevent entirely industrial accidents, various industrial sites are carrying out risk assessment. In the workplace, disaster caused by hazardous machinery including near miss continues to occur, and secondary damage caused by same kinds of disasters continues to occur. The frequency and intensity calculation process, which is the basis for evaluating the risk, differs from industry to business, and it is difficult to apply to the new product process lines because it relies heavily on historical data, lacks objectivity, and reflects subjective opinions of evaluators. Therefore, it is required to develop an evaluation method that enables an objective assessment of hazardous machinery in industrial fields. The purpose of this study is to propose a new evaluation method based on the hazardous dangerous machinery in order to solve the problems of frequency and strength calculation method on the 4M risk assessment about 'D' company. The objective estimation of the risk of hazard machinery and equipments following application of the proposed evaluation method. After that, the countermeasures are suggested for improvement and to prevent industrial accidents in the process or production line in the workplace. Two concepts, 'risk assessment' and 'REBA', are needed to develop a new risk assessment form for the hazardous machinery. The risk assessment calculates the risk level based on frequency and intensity, and REBA determines the risk level by grouping each body part objectively. As a result of this study, we developed a quantitative risk assessment form for the hazardous dangerous machinery based on the 'REBA' evaluation table of ergonomics. The type of machine, rotating body, input material, chip and by-product, and average number of errors per day were considered to be the main variables and it was composed by the total 9 numbers of error tables. The development method was applied to the representative hazardous hazards and machine tools such as casting machine, machine tool, industrial robot, and conveyor, which correspond to the main processes of company, and we could check the list for the risk level and confirm it for improvement . As a result of focusing on the list which is close to the maximum variable value, we could finally reduce the risk in the workplace.
