Abstract

This thesis examines the status, contents, and limitations of ‘field notes about Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun’ generally In the academic world, they have been making a lot of effort to be closer to the objective substance of Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun so far. However, related research has been mainly focused on understanding the cause or meaning of the incident in the macroscopic perspective, so unfortunately, there has been lack of endeavoring to figure out detailed factual relations associated with the field situations of Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun. Moreover, advanced research often adhered to introducing the circumstances of that time briefly relying on limited materials. Therefore, basic factual relations, for instance, the field situations of that time, order of events, places, or the moving lines and whereabouts of individual persons, have failed to be unclosed clearly. In order to solve these problems, this author will introduce the status and characteristics of existing ‘field notes about Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun’ and compare and synthesize the contents and describe the field of the incident at that time precisely. Also, by analyzing the ‘distorted memory’ of the recorders, this study will investigate their political intention, human desire, and recognition on Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun hidden in each of the field notes generally. With this attempt, this researcher expects that it will be possible to complement the absence of articles in 『Seung-Jeong-Won-Il-Gi』 which Jeongjo(正祖) deleted and furthermore help the descriptions of Im-Oh-Hwa-Byun to be richer. In addition, by revealing the ironies and differences found in those notes, this author intends to provide you with opportunity to think about the essence and limitations that all the historic notes may internalize.
