Molecular Identification and Morphological Development of Eggs, Larvae and Juvenile of Duckbill (Perciformes, Percophidae) from Korea
Abstract
This study provides detailed morphological description of eggs, larvae and juvenile of Acanthaphritis unoorum based on specimens collected from Korean waters between May 2017 and July 2018 using Bongo net. Totally 18 individuals were collected, including egg (n=4), preflexion larvae (n=6, 4.11-6.31 mm in standard length, SL), flexion larvae (n=4, 6.60-7.82 mm SL), postflexion larvae (n=3, 8.94-13.46 mm SL), and juvenile (n=1, 14.67 mm SL). In genetics, mitochondrial (mt) DNA 16S rRNA sequences of eggs and COI sequences of larva were identical to those of A. unoorum adult (genetic distances < 0.01). In morphology, A. unoorum larvae and juvenile are similar to those of Dactylopsaron dimorphicum, but are distinguished from the latter by the presence of melanophore on lateral body (present in A. unooorum vs. absent in D. dimorphicum). This species was firstly found and recorded in Korean waters.
