A study on Teaching Method of Korean Cooking Verb Vocabularies for Married Woman Immigrant
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest teaching method of Korean cooking verb vocabularies by analyzing a survey and textbooks for married immigrant women, Korean, and university students. The survey asked students in intermediate class of Busan foreign worker center and Busan Seo-gu women center.
Chapter Ⅰ examines necessity and purpose of teaching cooking verbs. Married immigrant women in Korea usually stay alone at home when their husbands go to work and they hardly hear about cooking vocabularies in their daily lives and Korean class. I encountered this tendency in my class and decided to suggest some proposals on teaching cooking words.
Chapter Ⅱ reviews several preceding researches on Korean cooking verbs in two ways. First, some studies analyze the verbs with linguistic method like semantic component analysis. Other studies investigate cooking verbs of some countries and textbooks in order that they suggest specific education programs.
Chapter Ⅲ looks into the most significant factor of communication, meaning of the verbs. It can be understood through the dictionary definition and examples for the words in the Korean standard unabridged dictionary. Therefore, this chapter explains cooking verbs as mentioned way.
Chapter Ⅳ reviews some textbooks for married immigrant women, ordinary foreign people, and university students in order to analyze cooking verbs from various angles. The textbooks for this study are selected randomly. As a result, 『Interesting Korean 1~4』and 『Korean with Married immigrant 1~6』include abundant vocabularies for various cooking situations, while 『Sejong Korean 1~8』contain cooking words in just specific chapters.
In Chapter Ⅴ, we can check the analysis of surveys conducted with married immigrant women in Korean class. The result of analysis shows particular errors which occurred with Vietnamese students. It leads to some teaching plans for Vietnamese who accounts for highest proportions among the respondents in the surveys.
