- Abstract
- As a demand for the expansion of social overhead capital such as industrial and residential areas increases, large-scale land reclamation projects have been carried out around the western and southern coast in south Korea.
Ideal materials for the land reclamation works will be a high-quality sand or crushed stone. The acquisition of these high-quality sands or crushed stones is becoming difficult and the dredged soil form the sea bed is used as the main material for the land reclamation works. Dredged soils are weak and highly compressible and their engineering characteristics are quite complex.
When the land reclamation works are performed with these dredged soils, it is very important to resolve uncertainties and to secure a safety through a feedback based on field instrumentations.
The objective of this study is to promote an economical and safe construction control through a predicted final settlements based on measured settlements obtained from the land reclamation projects with a dredged soil. In this research, final settlements and residual settlements have been predicted by using both Asaoka’s and hyperbolic method for the construction control of the land reclamation works. Additional pre-loading and the time to remove the surcharge load have been determined based the predicted settlements.
