Abstract
This study is to analyze the English verb ‘sell’ and its Korean counterpart ‘palda’ in the framework of Lexical Typology (François 2008). It shows the semantic network of SELL based on the ontological or functional properties of each sense and empirical observations and presents the semantic maps of the verbs: Korean colexifies some of the senses in semantic zones which are something in return for money, targets to betray or deceive and all the senses related to mind, while English colexifies all the senses related to something in return for money, something to accept. This study also suggests that to make the semantic maps of the verbs using the central sense rather than using the specific sense can be more effective in the descriptions of transitive verbs and the central sense is very important to study something in common and difference in languages.
