Abstract

Total Factor Productivity(TFP) is an important indicator in researching the quality of economic output. It is the fundamental driving force of economic growth. The estimation of TFP plays an important role. Not only helping to determine the economic development of the country or the region, but also guiding to make national macro-policies and regional economic policy planning. It is an important basis in determining the stage of economic development for the country and the region. In 2003, the Chinese government officially implemented the economic revitalization strategy for the three northeastern provinces of China. So far, it has been in practice for more than ten years. In this paper, I take the 34 prefecture-level cities in the three northeastern provinces of China and adopt the DEA－Malmquist model to calculate the technical efficiency, technology progress and TFP growth of the three northeastern provinces of China. Using the TFP growth, I can measure the production efficiency of the three northeastern provinces in China during 2004－2017. The empirical analysis of the production efficiency of the three northeastern provinces in China has shown that the production efficiency of the three northeastern provinces short-term growth is obvious, and the long-term growth is not obvious. Openness is one of the main indicators that represent the level and scale of open economic development of a country or an area. One of the fundamental reason for the underdevelopment of the three northeastern provinces of China lies in the lack of openness. Therefore, widening the degree of openness is important in the growth for the three northeastern provinces of China. In this paper, I first define the degree of openness, and analyze the import, export, FDI and GDP data of the 34 prefecture-level cities in the three northeastern provinces of China from 2004 to 2016. Secondly, depending on all of the above, I will build the fixed effects regression model and confirm the effect of the degree of openness on the production efficiency of the three northeastern provinces in China. As a result, the empirical analysis of the degree of openness and the production efficiency of the three northeastern provinces in China has shown that export has negative effects on the production efficiency growth, FDI and import have positive effects.
