Experiment for Estimation of debris flow impact force using IoT sensors
Abstract
In Korea, mountain disasters continue causing casualties and property damages due to monsoon climate with more than 70% mountainous terrain. Among the mountain disaster, debris flow induces more damage from its longer travel distance with higher speed than other one.
This debris flow consists of diverse particle size from clay to rock with more than 60% of water content and flows through a slope by gravity. In order to mitigate the damage of debris flow, it is necessary to estimate the expected location of debris flow and the countermeasure preemptive method.
So, this experimental conduct to measure debris flow important factors such as velocity, impact force according to the particle size distribution for further research. The important factors measured with IoT sensors in laboratory scale flume (2m length, 0.15m width, and 0.15m height). The used IoT sensors are Load cell (beam type), Force sensor (FRS 406), Ambient light sensor (VL6180X). And the measured data save in computer through Arduino Uno data logger.
Through this experiment, the impact force, flow velocity were directly measured, and it was confirmed that the larger the particle size ratio, the higher the impact force of the debris flow. Through this, it was confirmed that the maximum particle size of the debris flow determines the impact force of the debris flow.
