Affordance Evaluation by Information Delivery Media for Urban-Scale Evacuation − Using VR Simulator −
Abstract
In this study, the evacuation situation of the urban unit scale was implemented using a VR-based first-person walking simulator, and the evacuation induction performance of the information transmission medium was analyzed in the environment. Based on this, I would like to propose an improvement plan for the current standards for installing and managing information delivery media. Previous studies on existing disaster management plans have been conducted mainly to calculate the location, number, and capacity of emergency evacuation facilities, but there are few studies on information delivery to move to emergency evacuation facilities. Accordingly, an experiment was conducted to implement a space in urban blocks in a virtual reality environment to find out the evacuation induction performance of each information delivery medium and to suggest ways to improve related laws and regulations.
The evacuation induction performance test site of information delivery media was selected as P University located in Busan, and a virtual reality environment was established using the UC-win/Road program. Participants in the experiment were conducted for healthy men and women in their 20s and 100s who could walk on their own in a VR-based first-person walking simulator. The information delivery medium was divided into five categories: signboards, information boards, outdoor digital electronic boards, information broadcasts, and evacuation guides to analyze the evacuation route matching score and evacuation time for each medium.
As a result of analyzing the average score of the evacuation route matching score, the evacuation guide. The circle was the highest with 100 points, followed by 92.31 points on the information sign, 59.02 points on the information board, 50.66 points on the outdoor digital electronic display, and 25.52 points on the announcement. The statistical analysis results confirmed that the average of the evacuation route matching scores was not all the same depending on the type of information delivery medium.
As a result of the average evacuation time measurement, evacuation guides were the fastest at an average of 959.55 seconds, followed by 1019.06 seconds for information signs, 1024.11 seconds for outdoor digital electronic boards, 1103.63 seconds for information boards, and 1144.92 seconds for announcement. According to the statistical analysis results, it was found that the average difference in evacuation time according to the type of information delivery medium was not significant.
Therefore, evacuation guidance among information delivery media based on the evacuation route matching score showing statistically significant values. It was confirmed that there was a difference of 8.33% from the information sign, 69.43% from the information board, 97.39% from the outdoor digital electronic display, and 291.85% from the information broadcast.
Through this, an improvement plan was proposed for the currently uniform installation and management standards for each information delivery medium.
