Alternative Title
The biological change and resource enhancement effects of artificial reef in hyunpo, Ulleung
Abstract
Currently, the ocean is being destroyed to the ecosystem due to overfishing, development activities, and global warming. Among them, the east coast of Korea is a place where changes in the marine environment such as global warming occur rapidly. Accordingly, artificial reefs are being installed to restore the coastal ecosystem and increase fisheries resources. On the other hand, there are few evaluation cases in which indicators from various perspectives are applied to these artificial reefs. Therefore, this study aims to examine changes in the marine environment of Ulleung coastal waters located on the east coast and changes in habitat according to artificial reef facilities, and to understand the effect of resource enhancement by utilizing complex indicators (ARMI). As in the results of previous studies, the marine environment was acting as a negative factor for marine organism, such as an increase in water temperature and a decrease in dissolved oxygen. Seaweed appeared more dominant in natural rocks than artificial reefs, which are judged to be the difference in effective light. The benthos appeared more dominant in artificial reefs, but the diversity index and evenness index were low. Since the diversity index and the evenness index show high values when the number of species and populations increases evenly, it is judged that artificial reefs facilities don’t affect all species evenly. In the case of fish, it prevailed in artificial reefs, which resulted in the effect of gathering fish by installing artificial reefs. As a result of analyzing the effect of artificial reef resource enhancement with the ARMI, the value of ARMIe was found to be 3.6. For comparative analysis, the results of the analysis of ARMIE in Samcheok, Gosung and Pohang were 3.5∼4.9, and the difference was not significant. As mentioned earlier, artificial reefs have been studied to have high resource enhancement effects biologically, physically, and economically, but few studies have evaluated artificial reef functionality from various perspectives, such as ARMI. Currently, artificial reefs are used not only for the creation of fishery resources but also for functions other than the enhancement of resources such as marine leisure and illegal fishing prevention, and their value has been studied to be very high. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and evaluate artificial reefs from various perspectives. In that sense, resource enhancement effect evaluation using ARMI can be used as basic data to develop effect evaluation indicators suitable for Korea. If the effect on artificial reefs can be clearly presented from various angles, it will be able to objectively present the effect of resource enhancement and use it as basic data such as establishing facility plans and understanding the scalability of utilization of artificial reefs in the future.
