Study on airflow distribution improvement of splitter damper in the ventilation system of the apartment building
Abstract
The average Korean spends more than one third of the day inside. The environment mechanics department of The Korea Climate Change Assessment states in its report in 2010, 『analysis of one`s exposure depenes on people`s daily activity』 that the average Korean spend more than 21 hours a day according to the assessment of Koreans` living pattern, room for activities and residence time.
The amount of exposure to both NO2 which is mainly known to cause respiratory ailments like bronchial trouble and volatile organic compound(VOCs 4 ; Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene) that causes problems to respiratory and the central nervous system were contributed to indoor air pollution.
Apartment house is common in Korea and the more insulated and sealed it should be to resist wind load and withstand weight caused inside and outside as it is built higher, the worse indoor air pollution gets accordingly.
So it is proper to install an efficient ventilation system to allow a constant flow of outside air into the home to circulate the air to the desirable extent .
Korean government tries to cope with the worsening indoor air pollution by revising the Indoor Air Quality Control of Public Use Facilities (Environment Minister) and establishing new regulations about Building and Equipment (Ministry of Land) in 2006.
The Article 11, Mandatory Requirement for Indoor Air Quality Measurement and Notification of Newly-Built Collective Housing with over 100 households accounts for the most interests and importance when it comes to control of indoor air quality. In addition, it is proposing guidlines more specifically and strictly to keep ventilation deviation under 25% compared to the standard of the purity of health housings.
Unlike a regular office building with one open room, an apartment housing is divided into a bedroom, a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and other rooms blocked with walls which results in keeping air from circulating so that it needs proper adoption of ventilation system.
Therefore, we compared two diffenent ventilation system which have been applied to apartment housings for those conviniece, accuracy and economic efficiency through both sample test and actual test on site. One is wind load control through a currently used diffuser, the other is with a damper in each basin.
