EFFECTS OF PEER MENTORING ON MATHEMATICS ANXIETY

Abstract

In this study, we try to see if Peer Mentoring is effective to reducing mathematics anxiety of students. To accomplish this goal, we are interested in the following question; are there any notable differences between mathematics anxieties of students who get involved in Peer Mentoring and those of others students who do not ? Analysing effects of Peer Mentoring to 15 sub factors of Mathematics Anxieties developed by Huh(1996) and Lee(2007), we obtain the following results. Of 10 sub factors including notably abstractness, language and its structure, negative thought and the number anxiety in daily life, it reduces mathematics anxieties considerably. On the other hand, it seems not much effective in reducing mathematics anxiety of the sub factors such as examination and the domain of men.
