- Abstract
- The shipbuilding industry provides various job opportunities since this contains many highly labor intensive works. As compared with other industries, this is more risky industry. In this industry, there are many stakeholders such as ship owners, primary contractors, multi-layered subcontractors, etc. associated with safety management. The ship owners, who are most foreigners, demand restrict and tight safety management to other stakeholders. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the performance of safety management system.
The ships or offshore plants are built at wide places in the shipyard and a large amount of data related to safety management is generated. Thus, it is very time consuming works to transfer these data to desktop computers at offices. Also, this may lead to trigger the loss of information.
Smart work has been gaining more popularity recently. Smart work means that employees perform their works anytime and anywhere as utilizing the information and communication technology. It can be divided into four categories; the mobile office, the home office, the work-at-center and the tele-cooperation. Among them, the mobile office based on tablet personal computers (PCs) or smart phones, employees can exchange information with tablet PCs or smart phones via mobile radio communication networks and portable terminals. Smart devices such as tablet PCs and smart phones help to access intranet system for requests, approvals, information search whenever employees need. This mobile office system for real-time safety managing can contribute to improve the productivity and work efficiency in a shipyard.
In this study, the main goal is to develop the specialized mobile application for the safety management system on the shipbuilding industry. At first, in order to design the mobile application, the ISP(information strategic planning) is constructed to represent the relationship among the To-Be design, the As-Is analysis and the environment analysis. Next, the output of the To-Be design should be analyzed to find out important mobile application functions which play crucial roles for the on-site safety management.
Among them, 6 mobile application functions are finally extracted after analyzing the interviews of safety managers on Korea major shipyards. These are as the following; HSE notice, safety work permit, near miss report, safety work standard, safety education history and safety manager search.
The mobile application including 6 functions is developed based on ooCBD(object-oriented Component Based Development) methodology. The mobile application is designed to be operated under the Android operating system environment.
