- Abstract
- A 8-week feeding trial was conducted to determine apparent dry matter and protein digestibilities in order to evaluate seven different dietary protein sources in juvenile yellow puffer. Eight diets containing white fish meal (WFM), brown fish meal (BFM), squid liver powder (SLP), krill meal (KM), leather meal (LM), soybean meal (SM) or fermented soybean meal (FSM) were prepared by mixing a basal diet (BD) with one of seven test ingredients at the ratio of 7 to 3. Fish averaging 10.8±0.04 g randomly were fed the experimental diets in triplicate groups. Apparent dry matter digestibilities of BFM, SFM, FSM, SLP, LM, SM or KM were 80%, 78%, 72%, 67%, 56%, 55%, or 54%. Apparent protein digestibilities of BFM, SFM, FSM, SLP, KM, LM or SM were 96%, 96%, 93%, 92%, 89%, 88%, or 86%. Weight gain of fish fed BFM was significantly higher than that of fish fed SM and LM (P<0.05), but there was not significantly different form that of fish fed BD, WFM, FSM, BFM, SLP and KM. Weight gain of fish fed the BFM was significantly higher than that of fish fed the SM and LM (P<0.05), but there was not significantly different form that of fish fed BD, WFM, FSM, BFM, SLP and KM. In conclusion, apparent protein digestibilities, apparent dry matter digestibilities and weight gain data indicate white fish meal, brown fish meal, fermented soybean meal and squid liver powder could be one of good protein source to replace fish meal in yellow puffer feed.
