A Fundamental Study on Eco-friendly Submarine Cable Protector
Abstract
This research has been conducted for a development of submarine cable protection structure for functions of submarine cable protection and fishing reef. In general, due to a special condition called “fisheries” and fishing implements of fishing boats, various protection methods has been used depending of the characteristics of ocean environment. However, the previous submarine cable protection has been installed mostly considering on stability for damage factors including anchor drop or steel anchor pile rather than the characteristics of ocean environment. Therefore, this paper describes the development of a new kind of submarine cable protection structure that considers the ocean environment and use characteristics including wave, tidal current, depth and artificial submarine damage factors through a research of High Voltage Direct Currnt(HVDC) protection structure reinforcement work between Jeju-Haenam Heonggan waterway. In addition, structural behavior for the anchor collision which is submarine cable damage factor is evaluated with ANSYS LS-DYNA that is a finite element program. E-Duct is not only considered as the effective and economic efficient submarine cable protection structure that has the function of fishing reef that can be used for habitat or spawning ground of seaweed, fish or shellfish, but it also protects the submarine cable from damage factors.
