Most of the energies now we use come from fossil fuels and nuclear power. The use of these energy sources causes air pollution and the deletion of fossil fuels. To solve these problems, many developed countries have tried to secure technologies to generate decarbonized renewable energies since 1960. Among them, the photovoltaic power generation technology has gained much concern as a new renewable energy generation technology.
This study focuses on developing hot water system utilizing heat generated by a sunlight collector.
The hot water system with the sunlight collector is eco-friendly and economical. Typically, the hot water system with sunlight uses heat pipes and solar cells. However, such systems show low efficiency because the position of solar cell is fixed. To improve the drawback, this paper presents the sun tracking system which collects sunlight using a reentrant reflecting plate. The collected sunlight is used to increase the temperature of a heat conductive material.
The sun tracking systems are categorized by the number of axises and the method of signal generations. The sun tracking system developed in this study is controlled by dual axis motor and uses a easy method to detect the position of the sun, utilizing five light sensors. The experimental results show that efficiency of system is improved by minimizing the operational period while the sunlight is dimmed due to the weather condition.
Chapter 1 presents the background of research. Chapter 2 presents the theory of hot water system using sun light. Chapter 3 presents the types and characteristics of sun tracking systems. Chapter 4 presents the design procedures of controllers for sun tracking system. Chapter 5 presents the experimental setups and results. Finally, the conclusion of this study is presented in Chapter 6.
