A Study on Simulation of Room fire under
Ventilation-Controlled Condition

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the problem and the utility possibility of FDS in the simulation of room fire under ventilation-controlled conditions. A space size is 10.0m × 3.6m × 4.0m and a size of the fire is 16.9MW and it is propane fire. This Study applies FDS v5.5.3 to the experiment and makes a comparative study of FDS v3.1.

1) Comparison of temperature change according to the position.
It compared the FDS v3.1 and the FDS v5.5.3 with the temperature distribution in x= 2.5m, x= 7.5m, x= 10.0m. As a result, the distribution of temperature for FDS v5.5.3 is similar to FDS v3.1.
2) Comparison of fluid velocity.
When comparing the FDS v5.5.3 and the FDS v3.1 with distribution of average fluid speed on position in the vent, These are very similar same as distribution of temparature.
3) Comparison of temperature change from the fire size.
The temperature of the fire sizw 16.9MW was compared with 33.8MW. As a consequence, 16.9MW has higher temparature than 33.8MW.

The following conclusions could be drawn from this study.
FDS v5.5.3 shows the expectation of extraordinarily low temperature change. This result is similar to FDS v3.1. Therefore, that combustion model of FDS in oxygen deficiency in room fire needs to pay attention to temperature prediction.
