Abstract
The red-emitting phosphors of Eu3+-doped Ba3P2O8 and Ba3P4O13 were prepared by solid state reaction method. The excitation and emission spectra and decay curves are investigated by the site-selective laser-excitation spectroscopy at room temperature. Four different crystallographic sites corresponding to four Ba2+ sites are identified from the excitation spectra of the 7F0→5D0 transition in Ba3P4O13. Different crystal-field splittings of the 7F1 and 7F2 multiplets are observed in the selectively excited emission spectra of Ba3P4O13:Eu3+. The Ba3P2O8 lattice has two different Ba2+ sites for Eu3+. However, the excitation spectrum of the 7F0→5D0 transition of Eu3+ in Ba3P2O8 shows only single excitation peak with broad linewidth of about 60 cm-1. It is suggested that the inhomogeneous broadening is caused by charge compensation of Eu3+ by Ba2+ and overlapping of the Eu3+ sites in Ba3P2O8 are responsible for the singe excitation peak.
