- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to examine what kind of effects a mediated learning experience through FIE-B Program have on children's emotional intelligence and abilities of verbal expression.
To verify the effects of the purpose of the study, the research questions are as belows.
First, what are the results of the mediated learning experience through FIE-B Program on young children's emotional intelligence?
Second, what are the effects of the mediated learning experience through FIE-B Program on young children's abilities of verbal expression?
The subjects of this study were 50 young children aged 5 at D kindergarten in Busan. Children are divided into an experiment and control group.
To prove how FIE-B program affects children's emotional intelligence and abilities of verbal expression, the test tool for young children's emotional ability checklist by Lee's(1997) was taken and it is based on the Mayer & Salovey(1997)'s concept of emotional Intelligence and 4 subordinates of each area. And Cho's language skills test(1984) was selected from the part of the verbal expression for the tool of the young children's abilities of verbal expression.
To analyze the result, ANCONA was used and the variables were controlled as covariables from the pilot test.
The results this study were as follows.
First, Feuerstein's FIE-B Program gives a positive effect for children's emotional intelligence.
Second, Feuerstein's FIE-B Program has an affirmative result for making a story which is a part of children's abilities of verbal expression, especially in the case of the story corresponding to the provided contents.
According to the result of the research, Feuerstein's FIE-B Program is effective in the development of young children's emotional intelligence and abilities of verbal expression. Therefore, FIE-B Program should be applied to the field of young children's education as young childhood is important period to one's cognitive development. In addition, to make the use of FIE-B Program active the practical studies for young children should be more frequent, and besides, it is crucial to develop a teaching methods for mediators who can offer more meaningful mediated learning experience for young children.
