Abstract

The subject of this study is to research the give & take verbs in the highschool Japanese textbook comparing with the Japanese video media.
The expression of give & take in Japanese language, including the behavior expressing favors as well as give & take of simple things, is used frequently in daily life, which is an important expression that is inevitable for the Japanese language worthy of Japanese. Nevertheless, it is often difficult to learn and use give & take verbs as the human relationship of giving person and receiving person, of speaking person and listening person, and the situation of speaking person must be taken into consideration. It is understood that correct constitution of textbook, which is the basic teaching material of japanese, must be regarded with priority before everything else to solve such a problem. The ultimate goal of this study is to indicate the problem in the textbook and to propose the direction for improvement, therefore, by screening out major give & take verbs through the analysis of them expressed in Japanese video media and researching them compared to the give & take verbs shown in the textbook.
The research method of this study is as follow.
First, Analysis of video Media. survey all the sentence examples including give & take verbs appeared in the Japanese video media (drama, animation) selected as the object for analysis and research. Classify them for each type and for each meaning usage, find out important expression for give & take in actual life through the outcome of classification. Set up the learning presentation range of the textbook out of the result.
Second, analysis of textbook. Survey all the sentence examples including give & take verbs expressed in the highschool Japanese textbooks (total 24 textbooks) that are currently used for teaching, and classify them for each type and each meaning usage, Grasp the actuality of presenting give & take verbs in the textbooks out of the classification result.
Third, compare and analyze the give & take verbs in the textbook and video media to know of the problem of textbook and present its improving method.
Following is the survey and analysis result of textbook and video media through the research method as above.
First, actuality of give & take verbs in video media. It is found that some verbs are used often and some are used little in the communication of daily life through the analysis of Japanese drama and animation. In the survey, most frequently used give & take verbs have 「ヤル(yaru)系」 meaning usage to offer benefit and favors, 「クレル(kureru)系」 thanks, 「モラウ(morau)系」 voluntary receiving of profit, and the give & take verbs that has not appeared even once are 「さしあげる(sasiageru)」 and 「てさしあげる(tesasiageru)」.
Second, actuality of give & take verbs in the textbook. Individual textbook has been analyzed basically for total 24 existing highschool textbooks. They also have been analyzed through proportional comparison comprehensively. The distribution of give &take verbs has appeared significantly different for each textbook of the same level, and it shows that there has been no change or the bias level of give & take verbs has deepened subject to each textbook, even though textbook had been revised from the 「7th curriculum Japanese I」to the 「2007 revised curriculum Japanese Ⅰ」. In the 「7th curriculum Japanese II」, give & take verbs have appeared in wider range more frequently, in the aspect of type and meaning usage, compared to the 「Japanese Ⅰ」. However, it shows big deviation for each textbook, and there is the textbook that needs improvement.
Based on such outcome, it is proposed to teach groundwork focusing on the basic meanings together with each figurative main verb of 「ヤル(yaru)系」, 「クレル(kureru)系」, and 「モラウ(morau)系」in 「Japanese Ⅰ」, and to deal with various give & take verbs in 「Japanese Ⅱ」excluding 「さしあげる(sasiageru)」 and 「てさしあげる(tesasiageru)」.
The author wishes that the study as above can help more systematic constitution in the next revision of Japanese textbook for effective learning of give & take verbs.
