다양한 활동을 통한 미취학 아동의 말하기·듣기 함양 방안

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine whether or not kindergarteners' English abilities can be improved through the use of various activities. The current study was carried out for 8 weeks. The subjects in the study were 30 (16 boys and 14 girls) 5-year-old kindergarteners. Various activities such as storytelling, chants, songs, role plays, and games were used to teach children for this study. To measure the English achievement of the children, a teacher-made pre-test and post-test were used. Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS dependent-sample t-test. Based on the findings from the data analyses, using various activities in English class proved to be an effective way to improve and motivate the young learners' English. Although many studies claim to support the effects of using a single activity (only using storytelling, chant, or games) in English classes for children, careful research need to be done to study the effects of using multiple activities as the current study. Considering the cognitive and developmental nature of children, teachers constantly needs to make and develop interesting activities for them.
