영어동사 'open'과 한국어동사 '열다'의 목적어 연어 비교

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to compare the semantic boundary between the English verb 'open' and the Korean verb 'Yeolda' by analyzing and comparing their objective noun collocations from BYU/COCA and Cocoma Sejong Malmungchi. The result obtained from this study is summarized as follow: First, doorlike noun collocations such as 'door', 'possibility', and 'refrigerator' which have similar characteristics with door collocate with both the English verb 'open' and the Korea verb 'Yeolda'. Second, most noun collocations of 'open' and 'Yeolda' such as 'bottle', and 'business' collocate only with the English verb 'open' meanwhile some noun collocations which fail to meet similarity of door characteristics don't collocate with the Korean verb 'Yeolda' and other Korea verbs replace it. Finally, Its own cultural bases and the ways of thinking are reflected in each verb meaning boundary and linkage between verb and collocation. So each language's verb is collocated with different collocations. This study proves that the English verb 'open' has a wider semantic boundary so it collocates with most noun collocations unlike the Korean verb 'Yeolda' which is collocated with limited noun collocations.
