화법능력신장을 위한 고등학교「토론」지도연구
- Abstract
- This is a study on ‘Guiding discussion at high schools for improvement of speech ability of students’ in which actualization of discussion class is a key topic. Out of the speech-related classes, discussion class is the class in which logistic thinking of students is required most, and critical listening and speaking can be developed.
Thus far, speech ability was regarded as the ability which students could naturally obtain without education at schools. It thereby caused neglected speech education.
Now, discussion education is gaining importance not only by the society but also by schools, but still discussion education is not conducted in a systematic manner. In Korean language subject, discussion education has been carried out for students from the 1st grade to 10th grade ('speaking and listening subject') based on the National Common Basic Curriculum and for high school students (optional subject 'speech'). However, structure of textbooks of middle schools and high schools lacks organic nature and connectivity, and education has been conducted in a way to utilize 'discussion,' not centering on 'discussion' itself. Therefore, it is not deemed available to expect improvement of speech ability along with improvement of discussion ability of students. Hence, based on systematic and intentional scheme at schools, it is required to make students experience a variety of discourses, learn effective speaking and listening methods, and be equipped with speaking and listening abilities our society is demanding.
This study is purposed to make speech education be clearly recognized so that it can be viewed as very meaningful education, as it uses actual language students are speaking. Also, in particular, this study suggests practice-centered teaching and leaning methods centering on 'discussion' as a communication solution. Ultimately, this study aims to improve discussion ability of students and speech ability as well.
In other words, the purposes of this study are to establish theoretical structure of speech education, to find out discussion guiding method suitable for high school students, and to make students express their own thinking and use actual languages that are suitable in terms of both format and purpose.
