A Development of English Lesson Plans Using Frindle
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest the usefulness of English literary texts as teaching materials and to present effective teaching methods in English classes. The use of literatures has many advantages in English classes. First, students in EFL can learn foreign culture and language through literature. Second, literatures are effective materials which motivate students to desire to learn English.
Literatures are not just fictions but authentic materials for teaching English. In addition, we experience real life indirectly by literatures. It also enhances students' affective development. Therefore, English literature is suitable English teaching materials which can improve English language communicative skills.
Chapter Ⅱ deals with the theoretical backgrounds of literature as a tool for teaching English skills effectively.
Chapter Ⅲ shows integrative English teaching lesson plans using English novel, Frindle.
It is hard to apply literatures as teaching materials for the English classes in current education system. However, it is obvious that literature can not only develop linguistic skills, but improve general knowledge and communicative competence. Therefore, English teachers should recognize literature as a useful source which can help to develop students' English language skills.
