영화 The Pursuit of Happyness를 활용한 영어 수업 지도 방안 개발

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest a lesson plan putting together four language skills-speaking, listening, reading, writing- to develop the communicative competence using movies. Movies are very useful and effective teaching materials. Usually people are familiar with movies and enjoy watching them. Movies are good English teaching materials because they draw the interest of learners who are used to image media.
A language is an outcome of the society. The language used in the movies is practical, and English is related with the social and cultural backgrounds of different English speaking countries. We have an opportunity to experience indirectly the way of life and values of English speakers through the movies.
Using these merits, this study introduced pre-viewing, viewing, and post-viewing activities using The Pursuit of Happyness. Some activities are designed for each stage in connection with each scene. The pre-viewing is the stage which makes learners predict the story or review the previous class and learn some vocabulary from today's scenes. The viewing stage makes learners watch the scene without subtitles, and then watch it again with Korean subtitles. At this time, dictation sheets should be handed out before viewing. The post-viewing stage makes learners do activities, such as interviews with group members.
Movies have the potential educationally for improving the communicative competence. Even though this study does not apply lesson plans in the real class, it will help develop more effective and appropriate teaching methods using films.
