Childcare Teachers' Awareness on the Curriculum of Prospective Teacher :Focusing on this Curriculum
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the establishment of policies on the improvement of childcare teacher training curriculum by investigating how current childcare teachers perceive the importance of the qualification subjects of the training curriculum and what are the ideas for specific improvement measures in accordance with the necessity for improvement and examination of the current childcare teacher training curriculum due to the revision of 「the 4th Standard Educare Curriculum」. The research questions for achieving these purposes are as follows: First, what is the importance of the subjects on the training curriculum recognized by childcare teachers? Second, what are the improvement directions in the training curriculum perceived by childcare teachers?
For these purposes, for teachers of daycare centers located in Busan, a perception survey on the importance of the completion subjects for acquiring the qualifications for childcare teachers, the composition ratio of the subjects and the improvements of the training curriculum for childcare teachers was investigated, and the data of 293 respondents were analyzed. The data analysis method used SPSS 23 to calculate the technical statistics (frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation). The open-ended questions were conceptualized and categorized by grouping similar responses into categories among contents related to the research questions.
The results from this study are as follows: first, as a result of the recognition on the importance of the subjects on the childcare teacher training curriculum, the importance of ‘Daycare teaching practice’, ‘Infant development’, ‘Childcare teacher(personality) theory’ and ‘Child safety management’ has been shown to be perceived relatively high compared to other subjects. Also, as a result of analysis according to the importance order on the major subjects on the childcare teacher training curriculum, the importance order of ‘Childcare teacher personality theory’, ‘Infant development’, ‘Daycare teaching practice’ and ‘Child safety management’ was higher compared to other subjects. Second, as a result of analyzing the perception of the composition ratio of the subject areas on the childcare teacher training curriculum, it was found that the composition ratio of the teacher personality areas should be the highest. Third, it was analyzed that the improvement directions related to the composition of the training curriculum should be the highest in the composition ratio of the teacher personality areas. Fourth, the improvement directions related to the operation of the childcare teacher training curriculum were converged into opinions on the improvement of the system of the training institutions, the actual-oriented education, and the education for the improvement of qualification.
Based on these research results, I discuss the improvement directions of the current childcare teacher training curriculum and suggest that reflection on the childcare teacher training curriculum is necessary.
