- Abstract
- The meaning of literature education is cultivating creative linguistic ability, thinking power, emotion and esthetical awareness. Developing ego as a community member is also a part of the meaning. To maximize effect of literature education, media using education is usually focused on. The importance of the media using education is external extension in Korean language by emphasizing creative and critical accepting of media discourse and writing. In the same vein, many researches regarding media using poem education are examined. This thesis, especially, put emphasis on image media. Image media is not explained only by technique but by various dynamic features which is not found in picture, photo, graph. So it is suitable for poem education where image takes a great part to use image media.
By selecting movie which reveals the characteristic of image media, this thesis studies profoundly a model of practical poem education using movie. The reason why this thesis choose movie among various image media is that movie and poem have a lot of similarities, such as expressing artist’s thought through symbol, sublimating image in art, reflecting the stream of times and using visual and auditory technique. Through these correlations, this thesis suggests a model of poem education and practical way of teaching and learning.
The effect of movie using poem education is as in the following. Firstly, through visual image of movie student’s attention and interest can arise. Secondly, by revitalizing background knowledge through movie, students can understand poem easily. Thirdly, through the image of movie students can understand image of poem.
In theoretical backgrounds, relation between poem and movie is revealed and possibility of poem education through movie is suggested. In the practical part of poem education, the poem education using movie is suggested based on theoretical backgrounds. This is shown through a poem named 「The Military Demarcation Line」by Bongu Park and a movie called directed by Chanuk Park. Because Korea is divided into North and South, it is necessary to learn war literature. While many previous war literature described negative aspects of Korean war, the narrator in 「The Military Demarcation Line」 look the division with sympathy and wish the reunification of North and South. By learning the poetry, students can have multifaceted view to watch present and past together. This is why 「The Military Demarcation Line」 is selected. However, it is quite hard to make students understand the poetry. Also students have difficulty with vitalizing background knowledge and creating images. This is because students have little experience related with Korean War. Therefore, is used to make up for the problems. The movie is utilized to let the students see how imagery given in the poetry is shown in the movie by analyzing each line of the poetry and each scene of the movie.
The practical poem education suggested a new education model of instruction built on existing poem understanding models. The new model using movie proposed a process of poem education : introduction, development, extension, internalization. The model is produced ideally to be used in real class using movie.
In sequence, pragmatic learning guidance and study papers plan based on the usage of「the Military Demarcation Line」 and are also suggested. In addition, real instance of class is presented.
In short, this thesis targets systematization of poem movie. The researcher considers and presents learning method focused on utilizing image of movie to overcome the difficulty of teaching poem and increase interest of students.
