Correlated Effects of Enjoyment Factors of Extracurricular P. E. Activities on Prevention of School Violence and Stress among Middle Schoolers

The present study surveyed 405 middle schoolers in Gyeongnam region to find out the effects of enjoyment factors of extracurricular physical-education activities on prevention of school stress and violence. The findings are as follows.

First, regarding enjoyment factors (i. e. health, sociability, recognition and interest), male students were found to enjoy physical-education activities more than female students. In terms of stressors (i. e. studying, friends, teachers and school life), male students found studying more stressful compared to female counterparts. In light of the awareness of prevention of school violence (i. e. awareness of laws and types, coping measures and prevention) and stressors (i. e. friends, teachers and school life), no gender difference was found.
Second, the longer the hours of extracurricular physical-education activities, the more enjoyment (i. e. health, recognition and interest) the students felt and the more helpful such activities were to relieve school-life stress, which however was found not to exert direct and substantial effects on prevention of school violence.
Third, when it comes to the effects of enjoyment of extracurricular physical-education activities on middle schoolers' stress, the higher the health and sociability factors of enjoyment, the less the study-related stress. The higher the health, sociability and recognition factors of enjoyments, the less the friends-related stress. The higher the health and sociability factors of enjoyment, the less the stress relevant to teachers and school life.
Fourth, it was found that the enjoyment factors of extracurricular physical-education activities did not have direct effects on the awareness of violence prevention.
