Abstract

Abstract This study aims at the analysis of the 18th presidential candidates reporting on the local newspapers. It turns out that local newspapers are difficult to find differences about the subjects on the reporting. Because newspapers have standardized news format about the election. Compared to the previous presidential elections, the horse-racing report ratio is decreased. But some local newspapers were biased, especially, Busan-ilbo and Maeil-shinmun have bias toward the region-based candidates. This problem causes the fairness of the election reporting. Newspapers should be fair on the presidential election process. Kangwon-ilbo has a lot of concern for the local issues. But it showed regional self-centeredness. Include the front pages and the editorial pages, all pages needed to be analyzed for presidential election reporting. The presidential election reporting on the local newspapers should be considered fairness and locality.
