- Abstract
- Low back pain (LBP) is a major issue in musculoskeletal diseases which is mainly caused by manual material handling (MMH) tasks. The objective of this study was to provide scientific data for establishing safety standard for Korean workers throughout the laboratory experiment including lifting tasks in unbalanced posture of lower body. Thirty university students were recruited as participants.
MVC and EMG were studied about the following 4 working posture. EMG values were measured for vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, erector spinae.
The results showed that the MVC was decreased approximately 13%, 22%, 37% according to the change of working posture. Also, NEMG values of erector spinae were measured highest in Posture 1 and similarly in Posture 2~4. At vastus medialis and vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, EMG values of muscles of right foot that were higher than those left foot.
This study indicated that the lifting in unbalanced posture of lower body affects the MVC and a physical work load. Therefore, appropriate safety standards for the lifting in unbalanced posture of lower body are needed.
