Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop the standard Korean articulation evaluation lists which could be sued to obtain the articulation index of the speech transmission systems. Five lists (50 syllables per list) are developed considering the Korean phonological and the linguistic properties such as monosyllable pronunciation rules and meaninglessness of monosyllable. In addition, auditory experiment to S/N ratio for preliminary syllables is conducted to select the optimum syllables.
The validity of the proposed five monosyllabic lists is evaluated using auditory test to different S/N ratio, RASTI(Rapid Speech Transmission Index) measurement, and the articulation index variation characteristics to syllable’s frequency band.
Each articulation index list shows a similar characteristics with those of the existing foreign studies and a listener independent characteristics to the mathematical test.
As a result, it is found that the developed lists could be used to evaluate the articulation of the speech transmission systems.
