Abstract

The development of technology increases the choice of yacht manufacturing methods, and materials play a vital role in increasing yacht types. The variety of yacht types has once again revealed the need and importance of design solutions for problems such as usage, functionality, efficiency, and aesthetics. The environment in which these solutions are used therefore requires follow-up of the interdisciplinary process in the yacht design process due to its dynamic and challenging nature. This study aims to update the yacht design process from an engineering and design perspective. This academic study used two methods. As for the first method, a survey was conducted with the yacht design companies selected from Turkey and Korea using the AHP method. In the survey, it was ensured that the criteria given priority when designing the interior of the yacht were determined. Secondly, an interior analysis of yachts designed in Korea and Turkey was conducted. The important and common criteria given priority in the yacht interior design phase for both countries were determined from survey analyses obtained by the AHP method to create the new yacht design process. In this regard, a new DNA yacht design process model was created following the results of the AHP survey and Korean and Turkish yacht interior analysis. The main contribution of this study is the creation of a new DNA yacht design process model by analyzing yacht interior design and calculating the relative importance of each selection criterion in the two countries using the AHP survey method. The study findings could be helpful as a reference when creating a new yacht design model for future academic studies and contribute to creating a more effective and advanced yacht design.
