- Abstract
- With the emergence of new technologies in the petrochemical industry and continuous growth, the use of chemicals is increasing. As a result, the possibility of major accidents has also increased. Among the various major chemical accidents, leakage or rupture of storage tanks is one of the main causes of critical accidents and can cause the spread of chemical substances, fire and explosion due to oil vapor. This research designs a mitigation system that combines reserve tank, water spray, hydrant, and remote impoundment to reduce damage in case of leakage in storage tanks, and verifies the effect of mitigating damage in case of leakage through simulation. In the event of a leak, the remaining dangerous substances are transferred to the Reserve tank connected to the outdoor storage tank, and the Water spray and hydrant are operated to minimize the spread to the oil vapor and toxic conditions and collected together with the leaked chemical substances. In general, existing domestic businesses are unable to install sufficient Remote impoundment due to site restrictions, so they want to explore optimal design conditions in which leaked dangerous goods, including water spray and hydrant, do not leak to the outside. The simulation results indicate that the proposed mitigation system can contribute to the reduction in the dispersion area for the chemicals as well as a large reduction in the leakage chemicals.
