Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct basic research to derive the identification degree and optimal separation distance from the target by using SONAR images attached to a small ROV. In this study, the distance to the subject and the water depth were set as indicators for underwater object identification. In addition, a study was conducted on whether the observer could identify an object through a survey and the identification conditions of the optimal SONAR image according to water depth and distance conditions through field experiments. The main results of this study are as follows.
First, looking at the subjective perception of the optimal detection depth and distance through the survey, it was confirmed that the optimal detection distance was distributed between 10 and 30 m and the optimal water depth was distributed between 6 and 8 m.
Second, as a result of deriving the optimal detection depth and distance through actual field underwater experiments, the error between the actual object identification distance according to the water depth was around 6 to 8 m, and the smallest was around 30 to 40 m according to the distance.
