Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of mothers' parenting attitudes on the relationship between early children's self control and over dependence on smartphone. To this end, the following study questions were established. Study question 1. What are the relationships between early children's self control, over dependence on smartphone, and mothers' parenting attitudes? Study question 2. What are the mediating effects of mothers' parenting attitudes in the relationship between early children's self control and over dependence on smartphone? For this study, questionnaires measuring the early children's self control, over dependence on smartphone, and mothers' parenting attitudes were ompleted by 430 mothers of three, four, and five-year-olds in Busan and Yangsan. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS (ver. 24) program and Hayes' PROCESS Macro. The results of this study were as follows: First, the total score of early children's self controll and over dependence on smartphone is r=-.37. It had a negative correlation. Second, based on early children's over dependence on smartphone, the mother's rejective parenting attitudes with a static correlation of r=.32, autonomous parenting attitudes with a negative correlation of r=.-25, affectionate parenting attitudes with a negative correlation of r=.-22. On the other hand, On the other hand, it was found that there was little relationship between the mother's controlled parenting attitude and children's over dependence on smartphone(r=.11). Third, early children's self control tended to be high when the mother's parenting attitude was affectionate (r=.39), or autonomous(r=.41). However, when the mother's parenting attitude is particularly rejected, early children's self control may be greatly degraded (r=-4.5). According to the research model, a series of regression analysis was performed by setting the early children's self control(X) as an independent variable, and the early children's over dependence on smartphone(Y) as a dependent variable and the mother's parenting attitude(M) as a parameter. As a result, it could be seen that the mother's rejective parenting attitude and autonomous parenting attitude had a mediating effect in the relationship between the early children's self control and over dependence on smartphone. And as a result of regression analysis, the indirect effect is significant for rejective parenting attitude and the autonomous parenting attitude. This study is meaningful in that it revealed the mediating effect of mothers' parenting attitudes in the relationship between early children's self control, early children's over dependence on smartphone. In addition, the study is meaningful in that not only personal variables of early children, but also environmental variables were integrally considered in identifying the path through which early children's become overdependent on smartphones.
