- Abstract
As the damage caused by natural disasters due to environmental pollution, which is becoming more serious day by day, all countries around the world have come to sympathize with the situation that they can no longer postpone the implementation of policies related to environmental regulations. The IMO, which is in charge of environmental regulation from ships, controls emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and carbon dioxide. According to the current regulations, exhaust gas emissions from engines do not need to be tested separately for each engine if it is first certified with the NOx Technical File prepared by the representative engine. Therefore, the performance of the engine mounted on the actual ship may be slightly different from the representative engine.
In this study, the exhaust gas components generated in diesel mode and gas mode were measured during actual operation of the dual-fuel diesel engine installed in CheonghwaⅡ. The acquired data is compared and analyzed with the results of the NOx Technical File to identify the emission status during sailing. CheonghwaⅡ is a small eco-friendly ship equipped with a dual-fuel diesel engine for the first time in Korea, jointly built by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Korea Marine Environment Corporation in accordance with the government's GreenShip-K policy.
The engine was tested in the order of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% of full load, which is the same load as the NOx Technical File of the main ship, and emissions were measured for both diesel mode and gas mode. The measured emissions were CO, CO2, NOx, and THC.
The results of comparative analysis of the emission measured on sailing and the emission of NTF are as follows.
1. In diesel mode, CO2 increased according to the load, and the measurement result on sailing was higher than that of NTF. NOx also showed little increase or decrease according to load, and the measurement result on sailing was lower than that of NTF. CO decreased according to the load, and the measurement result on sailing was higher than that of NTF.
2) In gas mode, CO2 showed little increase or decrease according to load, and the measurement result on sailing was higher than that of NTF. NOx also increased with load, but the measurement result on sailing was lower than that of NTF. CO decreased with load and the measurement result on sailing was higher than that of NTF. THC also decreased with load, and the measurement result on sailing was higher than that of NTF.
3) The cycle of CheonghwaⅡ is an eco-friendly ship that can use diesel mode and gas mode. It is expected that data acquisition on sailing periodically in the future will contribute as basic data for policy development on the emission reduction of the engine mounted on the ship.
