Abstract

The purpose of this study is figure out the structural relationship among fear of failure, mindfulness, social support, vocational adaptability, and procrastination of job applicants. The subjects of this study were 534 job applicants aged 20-34 located nationwide, and data were collected through self-report tests using questionnaire methods. For fear of failure, the Korean version of the fear of failure was used, and the mindfulness was used as a mindfulness measure. Social support was measured using the social support scale, vocational adaptability was measured using the vocational adaptability scale, and procrastination was the Korean version of the the general procrastination scale. SPSS25.0 was adopted to estimate the frequency, percentage, tolerance, and accuracy correlation coefficient for each variable from the collected data. Also structural equation model analysis was conducted by using AMOS 21. The path of job applicants' fear of failure, mindfulness, social support, and career adaptation on procrastination is summarized as follows. First, fear of failure and social support did not directly affect procrastination, and mindfulness and vocational adaptability directly affected procrastination. Second, the indirect path through which fear of failure mediates mindfulness, the indirect path through which fear of failure affects procrastination through vocational adaptability, and the indirect path through which fear of failure mediates social support and career adaptation were significant. Therefore, when consulting job applicants who are highly afraid of failure, first, it can help clients to objectively accept reality and reduce procrastination by allowing them to educate and utilize mindfulness. Second, it is necessary to provide necessary social support to clients with high fear of failure and secure a social support network that can unite job applicants. Through this social support network, it is expected for job applicants to reduce procrastination by finding realistic ways to realistically increase vocational adaptability. Third, job applicants can helped by reducing procrastination by increasing vocational adaptability in a changing reality by utilizing direct career adaptation programs and education programs that can increase vocational adaptability of job applicants with high fear of failure. This study has contribution with analyzing the structural relationship between fear of failure, mindfulness, social support, vocational adaptability, and identifying both direct and indirect paths of personal and environmental variables that affects the procrastination. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the development of education and counseling programs to intervene in the procrastination of job Applicants who feel fear of failure. Based on these findings, implications for counseling implications and study limitations were discussed. Finally, the based on this results of this study, suggestions and implications for follow-up studies were discussed.
