- This study is a case study to examine how cognitive behavioral group play therapy affects the improvement of self-efficacy of ADHD children by conducting cognitive behavioral group play therapy for three ADHD children and to find out the process of changes revealed by session.
First, how does cognitive behavior group play therapy improve children's self-efficacy.
Second, what is the process of change for each session of children in the process of cognitive behavior group play therapy.
The subjects of the study consisted of a single group of three men in the third grade of elementary school who were undergoing drug treatment among children diagnosed with ADHD at the psychiatric clinic in B city. Cognitive behavior group play therapy for the study was conducted once a week from February 3, 2023 to April 7, 2023, for a total of 10 sessions, 50 minutes each time. A self-efficacy test was conducted before and after the study to find out whether the self-efficacy of the study subjects who participated in cognitive behavior group play therapy improved. In addition, we looked at the process of change by session according to the improvement of self-efficacy.
The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, after conducting cognitive behavior group play therapy, all three children showed significant changes in the sub-factors and total score of the post-test compared to the pre-test. Second, through cognitive behavior group play therapy, positive verbal and non-verbal behavior changes occurred due to the improvement of self-efficacy of ADHD children. It is believed that the group dynamics seen in the process of group play therapy had a positive effect on each other.
This study is meaningful in providing empirical information to therapists in the field who conduct cognitive behavioral group play therapy and workers in educational institutions interested in ADHD.
In the follow-up study, it will be more effective in improving the self-efficacy of ADHD children if the study period is organized for a long time to mediate changes in children's self-efficacy and group dynamics accordingly. In addition, studying ADHD children of various ages and genders will be effective in understanding changes in self-efficacy in ADHD children.
