- Abstract
- This study aims to identify the current status and problems by analyzing the educational programs for preschooler at the Science museums & centers, a representative institution of informal science learning, and to discuss improvements for the expansion of early childhood science education using the Science museums & centers. From January to August 2023, there were a total of 60 science museums & centers that conducted educational programs for preschooler, and the total number of educational programs was 583, and the results obtained by analyzing them are summarized as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the current status of 583 informal educational programs for preschooler operated from January to August 2023 at 60 national, public, and private science museums & centers, Public science museum & center were the most frequently implemented educational programs, and Private science museum & center were the least. The most common targets were Individual preschooler and the least Group targets. As for the type, Integration and Expression were the most common, and Theory was the least. Natural history was the most common subject, and Science and Technology history was the least. The preschooler age of the educational programs appeared in the order of 7, 6, and 5, and there were more preschooler Abnormalities programs than preschooler Specialization programs. There were more than 11 people than 10 people, and almost all programs had Guides. Weekends were the most common period, and Hours were less than 1-3 hours. Most of the educational programs were being conducted in the Jurisdiction, and in terms of Cost, they were paid more than Free, and among the paid, less than 10,000 won was the most. The Exhibition Relevance of the educational programs was low, and the Curriculum Relevance was high. Hands-on was the most common type of activity, and Simple was the most common type of participation. Second, as a result of exploring the problems of the science museums & centers's informal educational program for preschooler revealed through current status analysis, Problems such as a lack of educational programs focused on preschooler, an imbalance between subjects of educational programs, a lack of linkage and in-depth educational programs, and a lack of educational programs for preschooler groups could be derived. In order to improve this, the science museums & centers should understand preschooler and early childhood education and establish a pool of related professionals, expand the subject and content of educational programs, and diversify the way educational programs are operated. Finally, cooperation between science museums & centers and early childhood education institutions and communities should be promoted. In summary, It is necessary to establish a close cooperation system between various members, including science museums & centers, early childhood education institutions, and communities, to enhance understanding preschooler and early childhood education, and the educational programs for preschooler in science museums & centers should be operated in various ways in terms of content and methods.
