- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to investigate how appreciation and criticism education through online exhibition viewing of digital museums in the digital environment of modern society affects learners, and to study effective art appreciation education using online exhibitions at digital museums. Information and communication technology (ICT) and digital media, which have developed rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, are having a lot of influence on our lives beyond space-time constraints. In particular, museums that had to close due to COVID-19 social distancing have actively introduced information and communication technology and digital media into digital museums, which have been limited to auxiliary functions. In response, this study understood the digital art museum using modern science and technology that developed rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, looked at art textbooks compiled in the 2015 revised education process, and identified works of art and artists in textbooks. Based on this, it explored ways to educate secondary art through theoretical and practical approaches to the educational value of digital museums and sought ways to appreciate high school art and educate critically. This research class was reconstructed by combining the contents of high school art appreciation and critical textbooks with domestic digital art museums. One of the domestic digital museums was selected and organized into self-directed art appreciation and group critique activities as art appreciation and criticism classes using online exhibitions of the digital museum. It was investigated through qualitative research methods that conduct questionnaires on learners' perception of digital museums as educational media, awareness of art appreciation education using digital museums, educational values, and improvement directions. The conclusions drawn from the collected data are as follows. First, learners communicate directly with students through voluntary and free art appreciation activities through digital museums as an educational medium, and through the process of criticizing art works, they can confirm wide acceptance and positive changes. Second, in the digital art museum as an educational medium, it was found that the reality that learners perceive to be in a situation where learning is actually taking place or participating together is a major factor for effective online education. Third, based on this, online exhibition viewing education at digital museums should be designed and implemented in a way that allows learners to access virtual spaces more actively in connection with art appreciation and criticism. Finally, we would like to discuss the significance of digital art museums as a new educational space and their limitations and complementary points in their use, and suggest directions for secondary art education using digital art museums in the future. In a digital information society in the 21st century, the flow of education should also be accompanied by social changes. Students' learning can also be expanded only when the paradigm of school education changes with the changing times and the space of school education expands beyond the boundaries of offline and online and beyond time.
