A Study on the Characteristic Factors Influencing Educational Outcomes and Employability in Vocational Education: Focusing on NCS Course Evaluation-Based Trainees
Abstract
The government recommends developing National Competency Standards(NCS) based on job roles in various industries to enhance vocational education. These NCS will serve as a basis for developing vocational training programs and introducing qualifications. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors of vocational education that influence the educational outcomes and employability of participants in NCS course evaluations, aiming to provide improvement suggestions.
Based on prior research, the sub-factors of NCS-based education are structured as follows, For the sub-factors of education content, education method, instructor, and course evaluation, they consist of sub-factors such as education objectives, education design, education assessment, and administrative service quality, including typology, reliability, and empathy.
This study was conducted with a sample of 370 trainees participating in vocational training programs based on NCS (National Competency Standards) and process-based education. For empirical analysis, structural model validation was conducted using Smart PLS 4.0.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, the hypothesis that NCS-based education would have a significant impact on educational satisfaction was partially accepted. Second, the hypothesis that course evaluation education would have a significant impact on educational satisfaction was accepted. Third, the hypothesis that administrative service quality would have a significant impact on educational satisfaction was partially accepted. Fourth, the hypothesis that educational satisfaction would have a significant impact on educational outcomes was accepted. Fifth, the hypothesis that educational satisfaction would have a significant impact on employability was accepted.
The implications of this study are as follows:
First, by reclassifying the dimensions of vocational education based on the type of educational service and applying a three-dimensional model, an alternative model for the dimensions of vocational education quality was proposed. Second, unlike previous research, this study differentiated the characteristics of vocational education into NCS-based education, course evaluation education, and administrative service quality. It empirically analyzed how each of these dimensions influences educational satisfaction, educational outcomes, and employability. This sets it apart from existing research. Third, the vocational education characteristics factors selected in this study are considered essential factors for successfully performing job roles in the industry, as they were derived from a comprehensive analysis of recent research trends.
