Abstract

“The mediating effect of infant self-regulation in the relationship between infant smart device immersion tendency and infant eating behavior” Choi Ok-Joo Graduate School of Education Pukyong National University This study explored the relationship between young children's immersion in smart devices, their eating habits, and self-regulation, focusing on the mediating effect of self-regulation. Two research questions were posed: (1) What is the relationship among these factors? (2) How does self-regulation mediate the relationship between device immersion and eating habits? Data from 330 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 in Busan and Gyeongnam were analyzed using IBM SPSS and Hayes' PROCESS Macro. Key findings include: A negative correlation (r=-.47) between device immersion and self-regulation, indicating that increased immersion is associated with decreased self-regulation. A positive correlation (r=.55) between device immersion and poor eating habits, suggesting higher immersion leads to worse eating habits. A negative correlation (r=-.51) between self-regulation and eating habits, with a common variance of 26.01%. Self-regulation partially mediates the impact of device immersion on- v eating habits. The study concludes that enhancing self-regulation can mitigate the negative effects of device immersion on eating habits, suggesting the need for educational programs.
