- Abstract
- Eggbeater kick is crucial in water safety and survival swimming, with integrated lower body strength and core stability training essential for enhancing buoyancy and body stability. Correct technique and repeated practice improve energy efficiency and survival capability. However, systematic studies verifying the impact of such training on eggbeater kick performance and biomechanical characteristics in the general population are limited. Therefore, this study conducted 4 weeks of lower body strength and core stabilization training in unskilled adult males, analyzing changes in sustained eggbeater kick performance, CMJ-based kinematic indices, and lower-body muscle characteristics using MyotonPRO. These findings aim to inform effective survival swimming education and water safety training programs. The results are as follows: 1. lower-body strength training group showed a significant increase in eggbeater kick duration, confirming that strengthening lower extremity muscles is more effective in improving the performance of underwater survival skills. 2. Among the kinematic indices, the average acceleration showed a significant improvement overall (p=.038), but most kinematic and kinetic variables did not show significant changes. 3. The balance-related indices did not change significantly. In fact, they increased slightly, indicating a trend toward greater instability. 4. In the analysis of the mechanical characteristics of the muscles, the lower extremity strengthening group showed a significant difference, but the core stabilization group showed almost no significant difference, and it was confirmed that repeated training had a positive effect on improving the relaxation and fatigue resistance of the lower extremity muscles, such as improving the elasticity values of some muscles. In conclusion, lower extremity strengthening training is effective in improving the sustained performance of the eggbeater kick, and can be expected to have practical results in underwater survival skill training. Therefore, we have verified the effectiveness of performance-based repetitive training and the need for priority application of strengthening lower body muscle strength, and suggest that long-term, integrated training and follow-up studies on various groups are necessary in the future.
